Senior Features are back! Coming to you from a graduating senior, Senior Features hopes to capture the memories, silly moments, and aspirations for the future as they leave our final mark and get ready to leave with a bang. As the class of 2024 embark on the final year of their Oxford journey, the only way to open up the year’s first issue is with the Gamut’s own seniors!

News Editor Michelle Choy – Senior advice?

“My biggest advice would be to definitely make connections with your upperclassmen. That’s something I didn’t realize until Gamut last year when the seniors reached out to me. They were really fun, understanding, and kind, and gave me lots of advice on college and school. They even helped me develop my personality. Just find ways through clubs and extracurriculars to talk to your upper and underclassmen to start making those connections.

Sports Editor Eshmom Haque – What was your favorite Gamut memory?

“GamSlam. Seeing all the emotional performances from people you wouldn’t expect to see such emotion from was an amazing experience for me. Oxford people aren’t the most emotional and through GamSlam they are able to break away from stereotypes and express themselves in ways we usually wouldn’t see at school.”

Art & Layout Editor Rowan Lee – What are some things you are looking forward to?

“Making more memories with my friends. Junior year was very taxing and I often didn’t have the time to hang out with other people and I’m just hoping I can make those last memories. Maybe also incentivize my friends to keep in touch after high school.”

Web Content Editor Theoden Melgar – What is your favorite part about being an editor?

“I comment [on drafts] and teach underclassmen, but I also learned a lot from what they said and how they write. Being an editor just helped me be a better writer while also taking what I had learned to help my other writers. It was a learning experience for all of us and I really appreciated that as an editor.”

As their final year kicks off to a final start, seniors prepare to take it head on while also reminiscing and living out all their lasts. The start of the final chapter of their OA journey, the Gamut wishes them the best of luck to a bittersweet end.

Zoharys Jaen, Lifestyle Editor

Dedicated, hardworking, aggressively extroverted, and perhaps optimistic to a detriment, Zoharys Jaen is in her Senior year at Oxford and has been a member of Gamut staff since the 9th grade. First joining due to encouragement from her English teacher Ms. Galvan,  along with being interested in a chance for her work to be published and printed, she now serves as Gamuts Lifestyle editor. Though looking to constantly keep herself busy, she still finds free time to indulge in reading and watching romantic comedies which include the number 10 in their title, such as “10 Things I Hate About You” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” Zoharys both plays and listens to music, her mastered instruments including both the piano to ukulele, and music taste ranging from Classical to K-pop. Tyler Nguyen, Staff Writer
Active zucchini bread hater and morning showerer, Tyler Nguyen is a sophomore writer on staff, excited to write and tackle journalism competitions. Despite his self-diagnosed declaration of being “obnoxiously loud,” Tyler is an understanding, open-minded, and overall chill guy with a lottery-winning smile. Coincidentally, he compares himself to a lottery wheel, and whether it’s because he’s adventurous or indecisive, we’ll never know. With future aspirations of going into physical therapy, he currently plays tennis and commits to the gym. On campus, you might see him with a camera taking photos for the Gamut and pursuing his passion for photography. Outside of campus, you’ll find him volunteering with his signature Tyler Smile™. Whether you’re looking for an easygoing guy to strike up a conversation with or a dude with a dog named Bella, Tyler’s got your back.
