School memories compiled into a single book at the very end of the year. A plethora of school announcements broadcasted every Tuesday and Thursday. Who does Oxford have to thank for all of this? Why, OA Spiritus and OATV of course! For this month’s senior spotlight, tune into the experiences of Oxford’s media journalism cohort.
What do you look forward to this year on staff? — Dy Nguyen, OA Spiritus EIC
“Since we’re seniors, this is our last year of high school, [and it’s] the last time we’ll ever be featured in a yearbook. Having [these] memories and wanting them last is why I’m excited about school events; I’m looking forward to capturing the special moments and memories that we have as seniors.”
How has yearbook influenced your Oxford experience? — Carolina Banda, OA Spiritus Staff
“It opened my eyes to the community on campus [and understanding] that every person has their own story. You could be interviewing the quietest person but they’ll have the most interesting story about how they met the most famous person in the world. And at the end of the year, [you] feel relief, pride, and joy because your hard work is in a book and someone’s hands.”
Most fulfilling part of your student media experience? — Gabe Chaparro, OATV Staff
“It’s for sure seeing all our hard work displayed on each OATV broadcast. I think that the culmination of a week or two’s worth of work which includes script writing, filming, and editing all in one video. It’s super fulfilling seeing all our work going into a perfect segment just how you’d like it to be.”
Advice for underclassmen? — Carlos Miranda, OATV Staff
“I would definitely recommend OATV to the underclassmen. It could come off as scary for, you know, for the younger kids to talk to the whole school, on the news. But really, it’s enjoyable — you won’t know until you try it. And, it’s okay to get out of your comfort zone every now and then.”
Favorite OATV memory? — Brian Pham, OATV Staff
“It was our first-ever broadcast when we had the French students over [and] it was so hectic. At the last minute, we decided to throw in [the] exchange students so that they could be a part of the broadcast and forever be cemented into the memories of OATV. Just the energy and the vibes that entire day were so phenomenal, we even celebrated afterward with pizza.”
As the school year carries on, don’t forget to tune into the bi-weekly newscasts and be on the lookout for yearbook surveys to have a chance to be featured!
