With the last day of Spirit Week coinciding with the deadline for AP payments, students made the front of Mr. Barnett’s office their new home. Not unlike camping out in front of a sold-out concert, a variety of traffic cones, rappers, and basketball stars clustered in front of the ASB technician’s office to turn in their AP payments.
Wait times were long. During Homeroom, students in front of the line said they had waited for as long as an hour and a half, and students at the back reported waiting for fifteen to twenty minutes, desperate to pay on the last day possible. By the beginning of 7th period, sophomore Jason Kim said he had waited an hour and 45 minutes to pay for his tests.
Junior Theodore Vang waited in line during period 7 today. “There should be a more organized system,” he said. “Maybe designated days where people can pay that’s spread out across the week (or) across multiple weeks so there’s no pile-up.”
Registration for AP exams took place in September, and the payment window opened on September 17. Principal Houston said that there had been no lines to pay for exams before today.
