Due to her broad range of talents and the numerous social science classes, AP European History and U.S. History, under her belt, along with her success as Junior High Associated Student Body (JH ASB) advisor, Mrs. Kristle Siggson was awarded Oxford’s Teacher of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year. This honor is awarded to one teacher every year for their outstanding impact at school.
Known for the passionate energy she brings into her classroom every morning, Mrs. Siggson is an admired mentor by many students.
“I like how whenever we need something, we’re able to go up to her and ask,” said 8th grader Evelyn Hong, JH ASB’s Community Service Commissioner.
During her first year with JH ASB, Mrs. Siggson has truly brought a unique perspective to the team in the events they plan for junior high students. She is most proud of how her students have brought so much joy to the campus this year and being able to experience it all from the front row.
“Thank you for being the best advisor; you allowed us to feel so welcome and I learned so much from you in many aspects of my life,” said 8th grader Jessie Kim, Athletics Commissioner.
Originally planning to pursue another career altogether, Mrs. Siggson’s teaching journey was unexpected. She was encouraged by her college history professor Dr. Edgington, an influential mentor in her life, to switch her major to history. Despite initial hesitations, she quickly warmed up to the idea of being able to teach history to the next generation.
“Getting to hear [students’] stories, and having [students] share [their] creativity and love of ‘fill-in-the-blank’ is such a privilege. And if it happens to be social science related, my heart actually skips a beat.” said Mrs. Siggson.
Whether it be in her social science classes or when advising JH ASB, Mrs. Siggson strives to make a difference for her students and their futures, which she aims to help shape. She finds it to be immensely helpful when she sticks to her teaching philosophy.
“I love that my subject is people. People are amazing, and so complex. My philosophy is to continue to fall more in love with my subject matter so that there is always a deep well to draw from year after year.” said Mrs. Siggson.
After receiving the Teacher of the Year award from Oxford Academy, Mrs. Siggson felt extremely honored to have been nominated by her colleagues who work with her on this campus. She hopes to spend the rest of her career working on showing how much she treasures the award and the meaning it holds for her.
Though she struggles with saying goodbye to her students after the six years they’ve spent at Oxford, Mrs. Siggson strives to always be welcoming and energetic for incoming students. Even after graduation, she hopes that her students will be able to remember that she is always there for them.
“Authenticity is key, and [I hope they remember] that they have a cheerleader in their corner,” said Siggson.
