Oxford’s FBLA competed in their annual state leadership conference from April 24th – 26th at the Hilton Hotel by the Anaheim Convention Center. Over 2000 students from across California attended the event where they participated in leadership workshops, networked with peers and industry professionals, and competed in their individual and team events. Students not only showcased their skills and engaged in activities about being in the business industry, but also learned about FBLA’s theme for the year, “Dare to Lead”, the power of leadership and taking charge. Oxford’s delegation consisted of over 70 students, who, through their months of preparation, dedication, and passion, achieved remarkable success. Three Oxford students were inducted to the FBLA southern section officer team, while 41 competitors placed in the top ten, with 29 qualifying for the National Leadership conference set for this summer, June 29th-July 2nd.

About the Contributor

Kenzie Laing, Arts & Entertainment Editor
Kenzie Laing will be beginning her journey as a staff writer at the Gamut this year. As a casual writer of many years, she saw joining the paper as an intriguing opportunity to grow her skills in a professional setting, and is looking to try her hand at writing for the variety of sections in the paper. A creative outlet for Kenzie is art, as she is currently teaching herself the fundamentals of drawing; she currently enjoys painting and illustrating landscapes and architecture. She is incredibly passionate about the myriad of hobbies which she has picked up as a joke, then later unintentionally ended up locking in to. Kenzie is a three-year member of Oxford’s choir, which has been a huge part of her life. She is also a board member of FBLA, which she says has brought her outside of her comfort zone. As a former figure skater, current hockey player and cross country runner, Kenzie is ready to score for the Gamut.
