Over the past few years, Oxford Academy has made the opportunity for students to enroll in college courses easier, specifically classes at the nearby Cypress College. Although the dual enrollment program is a flawless addition to the educational journey of students, admin should take the next step of allowing students to transfer to Cypress College. Dual enrollment classes such as DE English Literature, DE Chinese, and DE United States History are extremely popular among Oxford students and deserve to replace the Oxford experience altogether with the rigor of a Cypress College education.
Since dual enrollment classes are replacing core curriculum classes such as AP English Literature and AP United States History, there is no need for advanced placement classes when an equivalent dual enrollment course exists. Sure, AP credit may be transferable to more colleges across the country than dual enrollment is, but students don’t have to take three hour long tests in May. Think about all of the things students could do in three hours — sleep, eat, and maybe even breathe — it’s definitely worth the thousands of dollars they would otherwise spend on a college education anyway.
Furthermore, a Cypress College education is invaluable. Not many students can say they enrolled at Harvard at the age of fifteen, but as “Chargers,” Oxford students will have the distinction of “college student” to brag about when they apply for college, arguably a much more enviable distinction than being a Harvard man.
And yes, teachers may not get to teach as many high school classes as they’d like, but now they can focus on getting junior high students prepared for their educational journey at Cypress College. They may even apply for teaching positions at Cypress College. Since Cypress College is an institution of higher education, it has much more prestige than the third ranked public high school in California, benefiting the resumes for both students and teachers.
“I simply cannot wait to pursue a tenured position at the prestigious Cypress College,” soon-to-be former Oxford Academy teacher Mr. D. Clair said. “Oxford Academy is for unchivalrous children anyway. Cypress College is for true scholars.”
Furthermore, while Oxford Academy may prepare students for a college level education, Cypress College gets straight to the point by throwing students into essential college classes like “History of Ignorance,” “Bagpiping” or “Turfgrass Science.” Oxford Academy is the real scam here, not dual enrollment classes. Students are ready for the rigor of college classes, so admin shouldn’t waste their time with meaningless APs.
Additionally, students can earn their Associate’s degree when they graduate from “high school,” making them appear more competitive for college admissions. This way, Oxford Patriots, actually, Cypress Chargers can fulfill their general education requirements and focus on their upper division courses when they transfer. Teenagers know exactly what they want to major in and spend the rest of their life doing, especially when they miss out on what is the least developmentally crucial time of their lives: high school. Either way, it’s already a fundamental part of the Oxford experience with students choosing their career pathways at the wise old age of fourteen.
Although there are many compelling reasons for why a Cypress College education solos that of an Oxford Academy education, all admin has to do is listen to the people and give them what they want.
