Every lunch, Oxford Academy’s dedicated students rush to club meetings. Throughout the week, students spill out in front of the lockers, outside of classrooms, and the MPR, eagerly awaiting their favorite club meetings. While the excitement brought about by these popular clubs is undeniable, there are also hidden gems on campus that offer unique opportunities for students!

Young Investors Society focuses on promoting financial literacy, with an emphasis on teaching students investment strategies. During meetings, the club’s board conducts presentations on various financial concepts
and introduce members to real-world investment strategies and examples. They also incorporate interactive activities such as investing simulators and mock portfolios to make learning more engaging. From learning the basics of the stock market to understanding different types of investments, you’ll leave each meeting more empowered to take control of your financial future!
As Benjamin Thai, president of Young Investors Society says, “The aim is to simplify these complex financial topics so that anyone, no matter where they start, can feel confident in building wealth for the future. In the end, we want our members to walk away with more knowledge of what they started and really take control of their financial futures.”
Joining Young Investors Society not only provides advice in securing your financial future but is a supportive community of like-minded members. So, if you’re interested in learning how to manage your money well, stop by Ms. Hale’s room every other Tuesday to take the first step towards financial independence!

During meetings, the board helps organize various data science projects related to fields of investments, health related concepts, and more! They welcome suggestions and ideas from any member interested in working on specific projects. “…We love to help and see our members succeed,” says Nimal Periasamy, president of CMC. “This club helps prepare students for different career fields…We help teach members foundational principles in data analysis and usage, so they can pursue the passion projects that they build throughout their high school career.”
Join Computational Modeling Club to be a part of a community which celebrates curiosity, creativity, growth, and well, data science! Whether you’re interested in the medical field, data science, software development, or etc., CMC is the place to be.
American Cancer Society
The Oxford Academy American Cancer Society Club (OAACS), led by president Diana Nguyen, has a clear mission, according to Diana, “…to raise awareness about cancer in diverse communities and to empower students to make their own impact.”
After navigating obstacles last year, the American Cancer Society Club is working hard to rebuild its presence on campus this year. Through informational meetings every other Tuesday, OAACS offers students opportunities to participate in service projects, and advocacy initiatives that raise awareness about cancer and health disparities. Board members also strive to include new members through competitive games during meetings, where they can be awarded with incentives!
“ACS prioritizes community service. As members, students are able to actively give back to a community in need and learn more about cancer and healthcare disparities in the process,” Diana also says. “On the surface, our work is educational, but at a more nuanced level, there are many ways for them to discover hidden passions, develop leadership, and find larger organizations to expand their involvement.”
With renewed energy OAACS is not only focused on educating students but also providing them with opportunities to make real differences. This club provides a meaningful way for students to engage, serve, and grow both personally and as part of a larger cause. Head to Room 204 every other Tuesday at lunch to be a member of the Oxford Academy American Cancer Society Club!
These clubs provide their own special learning experiences and adventures which can’t be found anywhere else— and there’s still time to sign up this school year! Also, when next year rolls around, before feeling peer-pressured or experiencing FOMO whilst watching your fellow classmates line up in front of all the popular club booths, take a moment to listen to the presidents’ of these low-key clubs — you never know which club meeting might become the highlight of your week!
