Alaisha Singh

Alaisha Singh, Staff Writer

Addicted to watching Grey’s Anatomy (mainly for Dr. Derek Shepherd) and listening to singer-songwriter Clairo, Alaisha Singh is a sophomore staff writer at the Gamut. Aside from maintaining her grades to tip-top shape, Alaisha loves doodling cute characters like Hello Kitty and using her crafting skills to make cute paper flower bouquets for her friends. Speaking of grades, Alaisha’s main goal for this year is to balance school, maintain a 4.0 GPA, and make steps towards becoming news editor for Gamut one day. One of Alaisha’s biggest dreams is to move to NYC (I believe in you!), which is known to be home to a bustling industry of journalism. Out of everything, Alaisha hates pick-me girls the most since she holds a high level of respect for women. Whether through crafts, feminism, or grades, Alaisha is definitely a role model for girls and guys everywhere!

Nationwide U.S history curricula doesn’t teach the whole truth

Alaisha Singh, Staff Writer April 17, 2026

High school students in the U.S are required to spend two to three years studying history: one year of world history and one year of U.S history. Yet despite this requirement, there is no uniform standard across all fifty states — the way history is taught in schools often leaves students with an extremely...

The exaggeration of ECs in college admissions

Alaisha Singh, Staff Writer March 18, 2026

As college admissions become increasingly competitive, many high school students feel immense pressure to stand out at any cost. Weaponization of “woke” is socially harmful

Alaisha Singh, Staff Writer February 4, 2026

In today’s social media saturated society, the word “woke” is used everywhere, and yet it rarely retains its original meaning. TikToks mock progressive individuals for being “too woke”; news headlines warn about “woke liberal” agendas; and political debates utilize the term to dismiss progressive...

NEGATIVES OF SEASONAL GIVING: Donations to food banks, shelters, etc., decrease after the holiday season, leaving institutions in vulnerable positions.

Giving shouldn’t be seasonal but year-round

Alaisha Singh, Staff Writer December 12, 2025

As the holiday season approaches every year, communities band together for canned food drives, clothing collections, and toy donations. While the surge in giving is undeniably positive, it highlights an underlying problem: society’s impulse to care becomes seasonal, skyrocketing during the holidays...
