The start of senior year is a bittersweet time; a “beginning of the end” marked by classic traditions. For The Gamut staff, there’s a special milestone to distinguish—the last first issue of the year! Meet these four senior journalists who have been on staff since freshman year as they dive into their final chapter.
Editor-in-Chief Justin Le: What is your favorite part of The Gamut?
“I think my favorite part of The Gamut has definitely been the people. Gamut has really been this one consistent place at Oxford where I’ve always really liked going. I genuinely just love talking to everyone, and I also think some of the experiences I’ve had getting to interview these people, who I don’t think I would have spoken to otherwise if I wasn’t in Gamut, and hearing their stories has been my favorite part of it.”
Managing Editor Nathan Perera: What is your favorite part of The Gamut?
“My favorite part of The Gamut, aside from the community, would probably be the fact that it’s been a creative outlet for me. Last year I was the Arts and Entertainment editor, and I’m really
passionate about entertainment, so The Gamut really provided me a space to share my love
for entertainment. I think The Gamut is an outlet for people to explore their passions and share their voice.”
Layout Editor Gia Nguyen: What is your favorite memory from the past four years?
“I’d say it had to be my first GamSlam. I remember that it was just really fun being able to plan the event out after having seen it for the first time when I was in eighth grade. A really funny thing that happened when I was there was that I remember the baseball guys came back from their game, and it was just me and our [lifestyle editor] Zoharys; we had a bunch of extra taco stuff but I guess we didn’t have any plates or anything so they kind of just ate it with their hands, so that was a fun experience.”
News Editor Nandita Bussa: What is the biggest thing you’ve taken away from The Gamut over the past four years?
“I think the biggest thing I learned was nothing will go the way you’re expecting it to, so it’s good to always be on your feet. I don’t think I’ve ever had an article or an interview that went exactly as I planned. Gamslam almost never goes the way we intended it to, but that’s honestly what makes it so special for us, because those memories are what we ultimately remember more than the success of the event, so I’m kind of glad, because it keeps us on our toes.”
