About the Contributors
Chris Phan, Art Editor
Senior Chris Phan lives a double life—the artist of a viral Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint fan art and The Gamut’s very own art editor. As a professional whitewashed Asian, he’s lived in California his whole life and rarely travels. However, he wants to visit New York in the future for his superhero inspiration, Spiderman. He really enjoys the Spider-Verse movie series, where he formerly received much of his art inspiration. Recently, he’s been filling up his sketchbook with drawings of T.O.P. from the hit K-Pop group BigBang. Aside from art, he enjoys lab work, stickers, and “noisy” music such as Charli XCX’s “Guess.” He hopes to live comfortably in SoCal in the future and keep art as a hobby. Claim your ticket as an OG fan before Chris becomes another viral art sensation!
Eva Kim, Digital Content Editor
Meet Eva, our digital content creator who envisions a future of being a full time artist, sipping coffee in her LA loft alongside a dog and a cat. To achieve this, Eva is putting the work in now. From taking art classes, to frequenting K-Town, LA, with her dad to go cafe hopping (her favorite spot is Camel Coffee), Eva is maxxing her stats in order to live a cozy, happy life. But aside from art, Eva enjoys slice-of-life shows like the Gilmore Girls and lives a chill life listening to Faye Webster, Laufey, and Lyn Lapid. Eva is also involved in school, serving as a publicist in the Senior Class Committee (in order to sneak Calico Critters into posts) and as a technician for Friends for Hope. Being a senior this year, Eva’s looking forward to experiencing everything in the Gamut for the last time. If you ever need her in the future, you can probably find her at art school (hopefully RISD) still with strong ambitions for art and fighting with mansplainers as a sidequest.
Gia Nguyen, Layout Editor
Gia Nguyen’s story is a vibrant mix of culture and creativity. He was born in Vietnam but was raised in Anaheim, California. Gia sometimes feels conflicted about his American upbringing and his Vietnamese Heritage, he is determined to bridge the gap! He is reconnecting with his culture by learning Vietnamese to better communicate with his family. His magical childhood trip to Disneyland, specifically the fireworks show, ignited his passion for art. With encouraging parents and a supportive mentor like Mr. Rylaarsdam, he continues to explore leadership potentials through FBLA and his creative expression at the Gamut. His goals? Putting together his love for art and practical business mindset, Gia aspires to launch his own marketing and design firm that showcases both. With his heart set on connecting with his traditional roots and his mind set on creative innovation, Gia is someone who would shape the future for generations to come.
