On Oct. 2, the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) announced that they are seeking applications for the Board of Trustees representing Trustee Area 3, following the resignation of Mrs. Katherine H. Smith, who had served on the Board since 1996. AUHSD is soliciting applications and nominations to fill the vacancy through Oct. 17.
The trustees unanimously decided on filling the vacant seat through the provisional appointment process rather than holding a special election, requiring the Board to elect a temporary trustee until a permanent member is selected through a general election. The provisional appointment to the vacant seat will be made by Nov. 22, 2025, and the appointee will serve until the next general election in Nov. 2026.
All applicants and nominees to the vacant seat must contact Ms. Christina Bevins in the Superintendent’s Office by 4:00 P.M on the Oct. 17th deadline and must be registered voters residing within Trustee Area 3, which encompasses the areas of Anaheim served by Savanna, Magnolia, and Loara High School. Additionally, applicants and nominees must not currently be employed by AUHSD.
After applications and nominations are submitted and candidates are reviewed, the trustees will interview applicants during a planned special Board meeting on Nov. 6.
The appointed member will join the five-member Board of Trustees and meet one Thursday each month, setting policies that guide AUHSD and establishing its operating budget.
Interested applicants can contact Ms. Bevins at (714)-999-5698.
