On September 19th, Oxford Academy’s very own choir program rolled out their first choir show of the year, “Good to be Alive.” For OA Singers, September is a time to start really preparing for their first show. However, above all Mr. Hogan, director of the program, pushes for students to have fun and enjoy the stage. Although Mr. Hogan is crucial to the choir program, he would not be able to do any of this without the help from choreographers like Jebb and Nick, as well as pianist Ms. Ye. Together, everyone involved is able to put on an unforgettable experience whenever they enter the stage.
On the outside, promotion of the show makes it seem like choir never has anything to worry about, however there are many concerns leading up to the show.
“It might be a little bit stressful backstage since not a lot of the newcomers know the area and this is their first year in choir, so I’d say it may be a little bit chaotic. It’s a stressful week, we’ve been needing more parent volunteers” choir’s secretary Katherine Wee said.
These issues, even if resolved for this show, pose a cause for concern regarding the rest of the year. If things like parent volunteers continue to be a problem, shows like this one will get harder and harder to happen.
Even so, the people of the choir program worked hard for weeks in preparation for the show, and on Friday they were ready to give it their all on stage. Whether you’re part of choir or just attending, this is a time we can all come together and say, “it’s a good time to be alive.”
