Junior Amy Bao joins this year’s Gamut staff after years of enjoying previous publications. Though the journalism world was brand new to her, Amy jumped at the chance to contribute, wanting to face new challenges and push herself out of her comfort zone; a little uncertainty wasn’t going to hold her back. She carries that same enthusiasm in everything she does, including varsity volleyball, video games, and films, among other things. Cinematography, from the creative storytelling to the more technical aspects, has always caught Amy’s eye. As a self-proclaimed emotional moviegoer, some of her favorite films are Big Hero 6, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and La La Land. When she’s not wrapped up in her diverse interests, you’ll catch her playing pickleball with her sister and spending time with her family. In terms of her craft, self-taught artist Amy found her passion at the ripe age of 2 years old, drawing 3-winged butterflies and Power Rangers. She never stopped pursuing that passion, and now, years later, she is ready to start the year as the newest addition to Gamut’s illustrators.
