You’ll Fall for These Pumpkin Sp-Ice Cream Puffs

★★★★☆

Fall is here, and there’s no better time to spice up your dessert repertoire with a unique pumpkin spin on a classic cream puff recipe! You’re sure to impress with these Spiced Pumpkin Ice Cream Puffs — with just a hint of cinnamon, the pastry shell’s light flavor complements the punchy pumpkin ice cream, making a tasty dessert your guests won’t forget. In each bite, a warm, airy crunch is followed by the cold taste of fall — a charming homage to the changing seasons.

Though the two components are best together, if you’d rather skip the carbs (or you’ve run out of cream puffs), you can still settle in with a sweet bowl of homemade pumpkin ice cream. After all, it’s never too cold for a frozen treat! (Gamut staffers can definitely attest to this.) Our test batch was a little more icy than creamy due to a substitution of reduced-fat milk, but your dessert should turn out effortlessly smooth if you follow the instructions provided. As untraditional as this recipe may be, you’ll likely find these ingredients in excess if you’ve already stocked your kitchen in preparation for the Thanksgiving season — whipping up the two components is a cinch!

About the Contributors
Christine Nguyen, Managing Editor
Christine Nguyen is many things: an Oxford Academy senior, the co-president of Creative Writing Club, an enthusiast of naming things after cars, and most importantly, the Gamut’s copy editor and co-A&E editor. Because freshman Christine decided to join the Gamut, today she is able to offer a detail-oriented mindset to push the quality of the newspaper. Not only does Christine hope to boost the standard of work being published, but also her closeness with Gamut staff. With an approachable, “big sister” demeanor, Christine looks forward to getting to know her peers better by checking in with them personally as she looks over their work. Outside of the Gamut, Christine is a connoisseur of the arts. She loves to compose poetry, craft creative prose, sketch, and create visual art. Outside of being human, Christine akins herself to a snail, admiring its resilient nature and cool-looking shell. This year, while Christine may not fulfill her dream of getting a dog named 2021 Cherokee Jeep, she hopes to achieve her other goal of making this year in Gamut a great one.
Sydnee Cho, Staff Artist
Sydnee Cho, a junior on the Gamut, is serving her third year as an illustrator. After two years of writing articles, Sydnee was able to experience her new passion of illustrating, causing her to change her role from a writer to an illustrator. While having an intimidating and strong outer shell, she adores the color pink (hence having pink stationary and phone cases), Monster High, The Devil Wears Prada, and talking to others. Sydnee claims that she is a fashionable person, which is obvious with her mindblowing total of 11 piercings and shining silver jewelry. Sydnee also has a dangerous addiction of making money and spending it on online shopping, therefore working as a waiter in a restaurant to earn that money. Not so surprisingly, her favorite thing in the world….is money. She usually spends her time listening to 80s and 90s music, as well as Lana Del Rey, or playing Royal Match (she is currently on level 3945!). To the freshmen who are nervous about their new adventure in high school, Sydnee gives the advice, “Calm down and chill, life ain’t that deep.”
